Nothing makes my heart sing as a documentary style wedding and engagement photographer than when the couple I’m about to meet up with for engagement photos texts me “hey, is it okay if we bring our vintage bikes?”
Why do I love lifestyle engagement photos so much?
Too many reasons to count, but I’ll share my top few:
You’ll feel less awkward when getting documentary style engagement photos taken because instead of posing, you’re doing something you actually enjoy.
Seriously. The secret sauce to how to not feel awkward during your engagement photos is to do an activity together that’s genuinely fun for you. What would you be doing if I didn’t have a camera in your face? Bring that energy to your engagement session.
Brainstorming themes for your adventure engagement photos will generate different engagement photo ideas than just your classic, traditional, posed engagement photos.
Your photos will stand out from the sea of whatever poses are trending right now… and, if you ask me, they’ll age better because they feel candid and genuine and like you instead of like everyone else.
You can see what I mean by skimming through my favorite Minneapolis engagement photos from this sweet vintage themed engagement photo session. The vibes were cozy and nostalgic, and the bikes and board games brought a fun, playful, and candid element to their session. We finished the session with some dark and moody blue hour shots.
The result after I incorporated my signature rich, warm, cozy editing style: a whole gallery of moody engagement photos that still felt nostalgic, genuine, and playful. You can have both!!! ;)
